Behind the charm. Its lies beneath the misery.
I could not help but notice it while I was in Boracay.
Who is Dexter Condez? What is ATI?
Well, I got this free newspaper Boracay Sun and read about this article "Death Throes of Boracay". It did not sink in yet. It was like an ordinary news back home with simple murder. Until, when we were walking going to Bulabog Beach where we also learned about the new "Roots for Boracay Mangrove Rehabilitation" and passed a place for Ati people asking for "Justice for Dexter Condez", "Stands with the ATI community & Supports Their Struggle" inscribed in papers and tarpaulin.
What I read on newspaper and posted outside their place made me conclude that its all about land ownership.
When I got back to the place where we stayed I had asked a local about Ati. What is Ati? He told me that Ati people were mostly owner of the land in Boracay. They were deceived by some by providing food, liquor and etc without knowing they needed to pay back in return. So, They needed to gave up their land.
